About this quotation
Francesca da Rimini speaks the lines in the circle of the lustful, telling Dante how she and her brother-in-law Paolo fell in love while reading a story of Lancelot. Her words follow the previous tercet that begins “Love, that in gentle heart is quickly learnt”.
