About this quotation
In the poem the aged Ulysses, home in Ithaca and restless, urges his old crew to set out again. Tennyson wrote it in 1833 after the death of Arthur Hallam and published it in 1842. Readers have taken it both as a call to adventure and as a poem about how hard it is to stay put.
